New President Hired to Lead EDC

The Independence Economic Development Council Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of J.D. Kehrman as the next President & CEO of the organization.  He will start his duties on June 1st

Mr. Kehrman was most recently the City Manager for the City of Nevada, Missouri where he has served since 2010 and prior to that served as the City Manager for Bowling Green, Missouri from 2006 to 2010.  During his tenure in Nevada, he was responsible for the $16 million annual budget and successfully delivered balanced budgets to the City Council each year as well as establishing reserve funds, setting fees and utility rate, drafting the Capital Improvement Plan, and managing the annual audit.  He also initiated and led successful public campaigns for critical ballot issues including a permanent Parks Sales Tax, a Hospital Sales Tax, a Transportation Sales Tax, and a 911 Sales Tax.  Mr. Kehrman led the city’s efforts to attract, enhance and retain business and investment.  Included within those projects included working with Cerner Corporation, 3M, ADM, Walmart and Peerless Products.  He has extensive experience with economic development incentives such as Chapter 100 Revenue Bonds, Chapter 353 Tax Abatements, Enhanced Enterprise Zone program, HUB Zone benefits and various other tax overlay districts which helped support the economic growth of the community.

In his role with the Independence EDC, he will oversee the economic development efforts which include business attraction, business retention and operation of the Ennovation Center Small Business Incubator.  Mr. Kehrman succeeds Tom Lesnak who served as President/CEO since 2007 and was recently hired to serve as President/CEO of the Independence Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Kehrman will be the 6th President in the organization’s 37 year history.
